Loen and the Loen valley are situated in the innermost part of the Nordfjord. Tall mountains and blue glaciers surround the narrow valley, and the green waters of the Loen Lake shimmer on the valley floor. The valley ends in three smaller valleys that extend all the way into the Jostedalsbreen National Park; Bødal, Kjenndal and Nesdal. Loen is an excellent starting point for easy walks in and around the village as well for more strenuous trips lasting one or serval days.
